Woman in Progress: Tessa Kiros, food writer

Our Woman in Progress this week is Tessa Kiros, food writer and lover of travel. Tessa has written several award-winning cookbooks about food from all over the world. Her book ‘Falling Cloudberries’ is one of my favourite cookbooks - and I own A LOT. I fell in love with the cover, and even more in love with the writing and recipes (I make the slow-roast greek lamb from this all the time). If you don’t already have one of Tessa’s books, please do treat yourself to one. They're so evocative of places and memories, and are full of truly brilliant recipes and stories. We’re thrilled Tessa’s agreed to be our Woman in Progress this week.

Woman in Progress: Ondine Cowley at Nicky Clarke

Before I met Ondine, I’d never really understood the whole idea of being loyal to a particular hairdresser.  They’re all much the same I thought to myself. They aren’t. Ondine Cowley, 3rd Senior Stylist at Nicky Clarke in London and a wedding specialist, has been cutting my hair and telling me exactly what to do (and not to do) with it for years now. She also cuts the hair of celebrities and royals, but I guess she can’t cut my hair everyday... She’s also one of the most open, warm and lovely people you could happen to come across, even if they didn’t have a pair of scissors in their hands! We’re thrilled Ondine’s agreed to be our Woman in Progress this week.

Woman in Progress: Kim Palmer, creator of Clementine App

Our Woman in Progress this week is Kim Palmer, the creator of an app called Clementine. Clementine isn't "a spiritual, hippie app – it’s clever, sharp and aesthetically on-point. It’s for the modern woman to help balance, "to sleep better, feel calmer and be your best self." Something we could certainly do with, having been slightly less calm in recent weeks and not slept properly since 2011... In January this year, The Guardian included Clementine in their article ‘The Seven Apps every woman should own’. With a busy work and home life we are so grateful to Kim for kindly answering our questions and sharing her story with us.

Finally it's February!

I've never been a big fan of January 1st, I'm feeling much more love for today, the 1st of February.  There's less pressure.  We are both keeping our resolutions (so far) and perhaps we'll write about some of the things we resolved to do as the year goes on.  Unlike our first two Women in Progress of this year, Sidonie and Caroline, Laura and I kept January for ourselves to get over Christmas, rest, hibernate a little longer and just get back into the swing of things.  Finally, it's February!

Kindness

There are so many positive character traits to encourage and admire but I value kindness above them all.  Inspired by World Kindness Day, I thought I'd jot a few things down.  If nothing else, today is a prompt and a reminder to go out of your way to be extra kind for one day and see where it goes.

WIP Cocktail Club: a spooky spritzer for Halloween

I love Halloween.  It's something about the kitsch, fake spookiness and the excuse for a party.  And this cocktail, a violet white wine spritzer, is the perfect adult accompaniment to Halloween goings-on.  The good thing about this cocktail is not only is it delicious, but it's also absolutely not restricted to Halloween.  In fact I've had this at my friend Zoe's house in summer and winter and enjoyed it every time, I'm just annoyed with myself for only now requesting the recipe!
